The end of the State Fair (August 22 this year) has traditionally marked the end of summer, at least for me. By that time, it is dark by 8 pm, which I must be home, or very close to it, as driving after dark is pretty much a "no-no" for me, especially on two-lane roads.
While I will miss the longer daylight hours, I will certainly not miss the longer daylight hours, I will certainly not miss this summer’s heat. I’m sure we’ve had hotter (I recall one State Fair that my brother and I went to years ago where the heat was so brutal we almost got sick and had to return home), but this summer has been bad enough, what with its unrelenting and unbearably high humidity.
Oh, I know, I know, by winter I’ll be complaining about the bitterly cold temperatures, but I can always put on more clothes and turn up the heat, unlike the summer where one can only get so cool.
Given that lament, August 25th will be the start of my third full year of school at Concordia (I Think that’s right). I’ll be in and out for the first couple of weeks for various "business" trips that I take about this time every year. Once those are done, things should return to normal.
Having said that, I look forward to having all of us return this year for continued growth in the grace and knowledge of our Lord Jesus Christ.
