Vacation Bible School will be held June 6th – June 11th from 6-8 pm each evening! We look forward to an exciting time of fun and learning about our Lord. Our theme this year is "Planet Zoom" Where Bold Bee-lievers Zip, Zap & Zoom for Jesus. Zip! Zap! And Zoom! on in and join us. If your children are not yet registered please call the office today.

The Office

Many families are probably thinking about summer and what to do for vacation. Family vacation can be a lot of fun and even educational. Sometimes our budget only allows short close to home get-aways or maybe it allows us a big trip; but whatever we do, a vacation should never take us away from worship. No matter where we travel, there is still a church not far away. With a little planning, worship on vacation can be a chance to remind ourselves and our children that Christ is still with us and that He is very important to us even on vacation.

"..that they should seek God, in the hope that they might feel their way toward him and find him.. Yet he is actually not far from each one of us". Acts 17:27

If you will be on vacation sometime this summer and would like to know the address and telephone number of an LC-MS church in the area to which you will be traveling, please call the church office and we will be glad to help you with that information.

Thank you, Sharon & Lora

Money and the Great Commission

Jesus’ parting command was: "Therefore go and make disciples of all nations, baptizing them in the name of the Father and of the Son and of the Holy Spirit, and teaching them to obey everything I have commanded you." (Matthew 28:19-20). Jesus was very direct and explicit with His mandate. There is no question as to where or with whom we are to share the Gospel. The love that God gives to us is to be shared by us with all people everywhere. He has given us our marching orders, and, in His strength, we can give ourselves fully to His work.

Because God has chosen to use us as His tools to bring salvation to all people, we must use our lives and gifts to spread the Good News. Paul wrote, "We are therefore Christ’s ambassadors, as though God were making His appeal through us" (2 Corinthians 5:20). One of the tools that God gives us to use in our mission of reaching out to others with the Gospel is our money. According to an old stewardship phrase, "Stewardship without mission is unnecessary and mission without stewardship is impossible." Stewardship and mission are inseparable. The funding of the Great Commission needs to come from believers. The money which God entrusts to us has many purposes, and the funding of mission work is of first importance. Through the giving of our money, we demonstrate our obedience to Jesus’ command to reach out to all people. Paul wrote that, through our giving, we "test the sincerity of [our] love by comparing it with the earnestness of others" (2 Corinthians 8:8).

For nonbelievers and those who lack spiritual maturity, the giving of money is done begrudgingly out of a sense of obligation. By the grace of God, our attitude toward giving is a "want to" rather than a "got to" give. We view giving as a privilege and an opportunity to spread the Gospel through our money. Our giving expresses our gratitude for who God is and all that He has done for through His Son. Through faith, we hold onto our money loosely and then are privileged to experience the joy of giving as we give God our first and best. As Christians we understand that God has a claim on all that we have, so we willingly and cheerfully give our money to help all people hear of God’s love. Money is an important tool for God’s mission. Through our faithful giving, we are able to leverage our witnessing to all people.

School News

The 2009-2010 school year is history, and the staff is already in the midst of preparing for the next school year.

The faculty and staff are most appreciative of all the volunteer efforts on the part of so many people. Without all their help, it would be most difficult to provide our children with the quality Christian educational experience that we have. Thank you to all of you!

Thank you also to all the members of Concordia. It is through your financial support that we even have a school. With so many concerns in our society, a Christian education is more important than ever. Thank you for understanding that and making the sacrifices so that we can continue to reach out with the Gospel to our children and those in our community.

During the month of May – our students collected food for the food pantries and our chapel offerings were given to the food pantry. One of the writing assignments was to write a poem about collecting bags of food. The following are two of the poems:

"Hey you children, have you any food?" Baa baa black bag have you any food

"Yes sir, yes ma’am many bags full. Yes sir, yes sir 3 bags full

All for the food drive, we put them by the door. One for my master one for my mane,

They’re for the families who are poor." And one for the little boy

"Hey you children, have you any food?" who lives down the lane.

"Yes sir, yes ma’am many bags full." Destiny

Kaitlyn

Bag, bag, brown bag,

Have you any food?

Yes sir, yes ma’am, 3 bags full

1 for the pantry,

1 for the poor,

And one for the children at the door

Alyssa

Thank you to all who contributed during May to the food banks!

Bethesda Lutheran Communities News

Have you ever wished you could visit Bethesda’s original campus? See how the people we serve live and learn? Attend a worship service in our beautiful chapel? Well, we have great news for you!

Because of numerous requests, a two-day bus tour to Bethesda is planned June 3 & 4 or October 21 & 22 for people in Springfield and Sherman, Illinois. As we travel to Bethesda in a deluxe motor coach, we will stop at the following attractions and more (as time allows).

  • The Fireside Dinner Theatre in Fort Atkinson, Wisconsin (Thursday Matinee)
    • Live performance – Rodgers & Hamerstein’s Cinderella
  • Bethesda’s 450 –acre Main Campus in Watertown, Wisconsin, as well as Bethesda’s Camp Matz and Camp Matz Tree House
  • Day Services I & II (Employment & Community Life) County A, Watertown WI
  • Bethesda Thrift & Gift Shop, 800 South Montgomery St., Watertown, WI
  • Berres Brothers Coffee Roasters in Watertown, WI

Cost is $149 per person and includes lodging (one night, double occupancy), bus fare, entrance fees to the attractions listed above, and three meals (plus one continental breakfast). You are responsible for any other meals and shopping expenses.

How can such a great trip be offered at such a low cost? Bethesda has a donor who believes so strongly in the benefit of actually seeing our work firsthand that he has made a gift to subsidize the expenses of the tour. Your cost is only $149 per person – making it a real bargain.

For more information see the bulletin board in the narthex. Registration forms are also available on the narthex table. Or you can call Mary Schaumbert, Development Technician at 1-800-383-8743, ext. 3470

Several of our members have gone on this trip in past years and they had a wonderful time and highly recommend it.
