NEWS FROM THE 1st & 2nd GRADES

Although February is a short month, it is full of activities for our school children. Most importantly, Lent begins this month. It is a wonderful time of reflection as the children prepare their hearts and minds for Jesus’ death and resurrection. It is also a time of thankfulness as we realize ever so clearly how much we all need Jesus’ death and resurrection for our own salvation. How grateful we are to our God for loving us and making us His children.

In the classroom the children are very busy. In our Bible study time we have been concentrating on Old Testament stories. Learning about the children of Israel in the wilderness with Moses has been interesting. The children were given a scale model of the Tabernacle and a video to make clearer how the people worshiped and what worship meant to them as God intended. Pastor Koschmann has been teaching Hebrew and Greek to the children once a week also. The children have a Torah in the classroom which they take special turns to look at and handle, so learning Hebrew has been most timely and interesting. It is giving the children an appreciation of God’s Word and how God had revealed His plan of salvation since the very beginning.

It is math facts time when the children concentrate on learning their addition and subtraction facts. The children continue to benefit from the ladies who serve as reading helpers. Their reading proficiency is greatly helped by these ladies and their efforts. We appreciate them very much.

We wish for you a thoughtful Lenten season as together we grow as God’s children sharing the wonderful news of salvation.
