PRINCIPALLY SPEAKING: It is hard to believe that we are half way through the first quarter of the school year. Maybe it is because “time flies when you are having fun”. I don’t know if everyone would agree with the fun part, but I do.
Thanks to Pam Billotte and Diana Taylor for organizing our fall activity. They divided the students into teams across the grades and then they competed in our Olympics. Also take a look at our rolling bulletin board which is covered with pictures of our students participating in the different events. Thank you Sue Elmore for the pictures and the wonderful bulletin board.
God bless you all as we look forward to cooler weather and all the fall colors.
Dan Henschen

Greetings in the Name of our Lord and Savior Jesus Christ!
It is truly exciting to be involved with Concordia Lutheran Church and School this year. Our enrollment is up and may things are going well. My hope and prayer is that God continues to richly bless us all with His gifts. As we look at the number of students and families that we have here at Concordia that are not members of the church, I give thanks to God for the opportunity we have to proclaim Christ. With that in mind I would like to take this opportunity to invite all of the parents to an information class on Thursday evenings. We meet at school in the basement and work through the Doctrine/Teachings of the Lutheran Church Missouri Synod. This will be helpful as your children may have questions that may come up in religion class. This will also help us to get to know each other better and for those who are members at Concordia, this provides a good review of our doctrine. This may be used as a membership class or as an opportunity to find out more about Concordia and the Lutheran Church Missouri Synod.
Classes will be held on Thursday evenings in the school basement from 7:00pm until 8:00pm or 8:10pm and will last about ten weeks. Childcare is available. Please prayerfully consider this opportunity to grow closer to each other as God draws us closer to Himself.
Rev. Jim Hennig
THANK YOU: Thank you for the new outdoor flags that were donated anonymously. Our old flags were getting very faded and these new ones are greatly appreciated.
SPELLING BEE: Concordia will conduct it’s annual spelling bee on Friday, October 20th. Our school spelling bee fulfills a 2 fold purpose. All children in grades 2-8 participate thereby allowing everyone an opportunity to participate in a spelling bee giving God the praise and glory for minds that can learn and spell. The second purpose is to choose our representatives from grades 3-8 who will participate in the area-wide Lutheran schools spelling bee at Lutheran High School in January. By having our spelling bee now, the ones chosen to go to Lutheran High will have sufficient time to study the word lists. Parents are invited to attend. We will begin at 10:00am with grades 2-4. We will break for lunch, and at 1:00 the 5-8 graders will have their opportunity. The times are somewhat flexible because the times for any given grade level depends on how well the children are spelling.
MID-QUARTER REPORTS: The first mid-quarter ends on September 22, with reports going home on Wednesday, September 27. Check the
book bags on the 27th!
NO SCHOOL: There will be no school on October 5-6 so our teachers can attend the combined Central Illinois and Southern Illinois Teachers Conference. And also there will be no school on October 9th for Columbus Day. Please mark your calendars!
FALL ACTIVITY: A big thanks to the entire faculty for helping with the Olympic Fall Activity. The children enjoyed a morning of competing in a Concordia version of the Olympic events on Friday, September 15th. The students were put on teams comprised of children from all the various grades. The teams were organized by countries. They competed in bowling, basketball, hula-hoops, horseshoes, and golf. Mrs. Henschen served us lunch with as many foods in circle shapes for the Olympic circles as she could. The goal of this activity is to bring the children together in a fun activity and give them opportunities to build friendships across the grades. We are a family at Concordia, and these activities allow us to foster those relationships.
CAMP CILCA: Biscuits & Gravy? That’s right! Camp CILCA’s famous biscuits and gravy will be served at Camp CILCA’s Pancake & Sausage/Biscuits & Gravy Dinner. The fundraiser/dinner will be held on Sunday, October 8th, 2006. The meal begins at 4pm and goes until 7pm. The price is $6.00 for adults and $4.00 for children ages 4-12. The ALL YOU CAN EAT plate goes for $10.00. Children 3 and under are free. For more information, call 217/487-7497 or visit our website at www.cilca.org. Sponsored in part by Thrivent Financial.

QUOTABLE QUOTES:
THE HOLY ALPHABET...
Although things are not perfect
Because of trial or pain,
Continue in thanksgiving.
Do not begin to blame
Even when the times are hard.
Fierce winds are bound to blow.
God is forever able.
Hold on to what you know.
Imagine life without His love.
Joy would cease to be.
Keep thanking Him for all the things
Love imparts to thee.
Move out of “camp Complaining”.
No weapon that is known
On earth can yield the power
Praise can do alone.
Quit looking at the future.
Redeem the time at hand.
Start every day with worship.
To “thank” is a command.
Until we see Him coming
Victorious in the sky,
We’ll run the race with gratitude
Xalting God most high.
Yes, there’ll be good times and yes some will be bad, but…
Zion waits sin glory...where none are ever sad!
