PRINCIPALLY SPEAKING: Our theme this year is "Grow in Grace and Knowledge." So what is grace? Use this acronym:

G od’s
R iches
A t
C hrist’s
E xpense.

Please remember to park in the parking lot, not on the street, when picking up your children after school.

We still have room for more students in all grades. If you know of anyone looking for a Christ-centered education for their children, please tell them about Concordia.

Thanks to all who have worked so hard to make the Parent Teacher League (PTL) such a great organization. It’s great to see so many at meetings and all the activities. Also, thanks for the new playground equipment.

We thank God for the cooler weather and look forward to a beautiful fall. God bless you and His children. I will give thanks to the LORD because of His righteousness and will sing praise to the name of the LORD Most High. Psalm 7:17

Dan Henschen

THANK YOUS: Thanks to parents and friends who drove for our Zoo Field Trip. We appreciated you taking the time to spend with us at the zoo. The rain had the potential of dampening our experience. With the help of the parents, the rain was no more than a minor inconvenience. The children made new friends in other grades, and our goal of helping to create a family atmosphere was accomplished. Thanks! Without your help the trip would not have been possible.

Thanks also to the P.T.L. for the Welcome Back to School Roller Skating party last night. We are a school "family," and these types of events allow us time to visit and become aquainted with each other. Thanks P.T.L.!

SCHOOL PICTURES: Our school picture dates are set for Tuesday, October 14 and Monday October 20.

CHARGER SCHEDULE: The Charger is sent home the first and third Fridays of each month. If you have any information you would like written as an article in The Charger, it is most helpful if you would have the articles to Pam Billotte by the Friday before it is sent home. If you have a complete page you would like included with The Charger, it can be submitted as late as Monday of the week The Charger is issued.

MID-QUARTER REPORTS: The first mid-quarter ends on September 26, with reports going home on Wednesday, October 1. Check the bookbags on the 1st!

NO SCHOOL: There will be no school on Thursday and Friday, October 9 & 10, for the teachers to attend the CID Lutheran Teachers’ Conference at Trinity Lutheran Church and School in Bloomington, IL. There IS school on the following Monday, October 13, Columbus Day.

LIBRARY NEWS: We are off to a new start for our school year. Mrs. Wiegand will keep us informed of any new policies or changes that may take place. We certainly appreciate Mrs. Wiegand’s assistance in providing the library experience for our children. Please help your child remember to return the library books the week they are due. This teaches the child responsibility and, at the same time, provides the best book selection possible each week.

LUTHERAN HIGH SCHOOL CORNER: As Lutheran High information becomes available, we will be sharing it with our Concordia family. Lutheran High School is a part of our congregation’s ministry to our children as well as those in the community. Concordia has been a part of Lutheran High school since its beginning. In fact, Lutheran High began as the 9th grade in what is now our 7-8 grade classroom.

QUOTABLE QUOTES:

Personal Worth

A well-known speaker started off his seminar by holding up a $100 bill. In the room of 200 people he asked, "Who would like this $100 bill?" Hands started going up. He said, "I am going to give this to one of you, but first let me do this." He proceeded to crumble up the bill. He then asked, "Who still wants it?" Still, the hands were up in the air.

"Well," he replied, "what if I do this?" He dropped it on the floor, and started to grind it with his shoe. He picked it up, now all crumbled and dirty. "Now who still wants it?" Still, hands went into the air. "My friends, you all have learned a very valuable lesson. No matter what I did to the money, you still wanted it, because it did not decrease in value. It is still worth $100.

"Many times in our lives, we are dropped, crumbled and ground into the dirt by the decisions we make and the circumstances that come our way. We feel that we are worthless. But, no matter what has happened or what will happen, you will never lose your value. Dirty or clean, crumpled or finely creased, you are still priceless to God and others who love you. The worth of our lives comes not in what we do or who we know, but by who we are." You were bought with a price and are a child of the King....don’t ever forget it.

The Life Chain "Prayer Witness" will be held on Sunday, October 5th from 2:30 – 3:30 p.m. A map with the route and more information is available in the narthex. For more information please call 529-7669. (Please remember not to talk during this time but to pray.)
