Growing in Grace and Knowledge 2 Peter 3:18 The Charger |
[To Home Page] [To Site Map] [To Grade School Page] [Other Charger Editions] PRINCIPALLY SPEAKING: Our theme for this year, "Grow in Grace and Knowledge", is not just for our students but for us also. We as parents and teachers need to take time out of our busy schedules to study Gods Word, to have devotions, to pray, and to worship. Let us make it number one in our lives and the lives of our family. Let the Word of Christ dwell in you richly as you teach and admonish one another with all wisdom, and as you sing psalms, hymns and spiritual songs with gratitude in your hearts to God. Colossians 3:16 A special thank you to the family of Warren Bachmann for the memorial designated for the new scoreboards. I am sure that the boards will keep track of many exciting games in the future. The wiener roast at Camp CILCA sponsored by the P.T.L. was great, and who could have picked better weather! Thanks to all who put it together. God bless you all as we continue to work together to teach His children. Dan Henschen SPELLING BEE: Concordia will conduct its annual spelling bee on Friday, October 24. Our school spelling bee fulfills a 2 fold purpose. All children in grades 2-8 participate thereby allowing everyone an opportunity to participate in a spelling bee giving God the praise and glory for minds that can learn and spell. The second purpose is to choose our representatives from grades 3-8 who will participate in the area-wide Lutheran schools spelling bee at Lutheran High School in January. By having our spelling bee now, the ones chosen to go to Lutheran High will have sufficient time to study the word lists. Parents are invited to attend. We will begin at 10:00 with grades 2-4. We break for lunch, and at 1:00 the 5-8 graders will have their opportunity. The times are somewhat flexible because the times for any given grade level depend on how well the children are spelling. PARENT -TEACHER CONFERENCES FOR K-8: The first quarter ends on October 31. Report Cards will be issued on Wednesday, November 5. Conferences will be scheduled for parents to meet with the teachers on Thursday, November 6, and Friday, November 7. These conferences are for parents in K-8. The preschools will not be having conferences at this time. Please call the office (529-3309) as soon as you can to schedule your time. Appointments are made through the office so that we can coordinate families with more than one child with times that are back to back. PTL FALL FUNDRAISER: Thank you to everyone who supported our school with this fundraiser. WE submitted orders totaling $7578.50 and collected all but $289.00 in funds. We anticipate a profit of approximately $3750.00 that can be used for our school and church. A reminder that product pick up is on Wednesday, October 22nd between 3:00 and 5:30 in the gym. Any outstanding payments must be paid then. STATE VOLLEYBALL TOURNAMENT: Concordia Lutheran is one of six sites hosting the State Volleyball Tournament on November 7th, 8th, and 9th in Springfield. This is a wonderful opportunity for our school to make money through the sale of concessions. Last year we made about $800 in our concession stand and offered a wide range of foods to suit adults and children alike. If we are creative again this year and have enough volunteers, we can again have a successful event. Please look for additional notes that will be coming home as this event draws near and help out in any way you can!! SCHOOL PICTURE: The date for the 4 year old part day preschool pictures and any that were absent on October 14 is Monday, October 20. COOKBOOK UPDATE: Thank you to all of you who submitted recipes for our cookbook!! We now have plenty to create a wonderful keepsake cookbook for our church and school. We have decided on a 3-ring padded binder book with a built in easel to easily display your recipes while cooking. We have been soliciting input for the cover and dividers and believe that everyone will be happy with the choice. The cookbook will sell for between $8 and $9 depending on the cost. This cookbook is not intended as a fundraising project but to provide a high quality book at an affordable cost for our church and school. We anticipate that the books will be available for sale in mid-November. The P.T.L. will have more ordering information in their next newsletter. GYM SCOREBOARD: Have you seen our new gym scoreboards? Stop by the gym and take a look. We thank the Bachmann family for this generous gift with memorial money from Warren. PTL FALL FESTIVAL AND SILENT AUCTION: Dont forget to save Saturday, November 1, to come and enjoy the fall festival at Concordia. This annual PTL event is fun for everyone as the children play the games and the parents and children bid on items in the silent auction. The hours are 10:00 AM till 2:00 PM with games, food, and fun for all! LUTHERAN HIGH NEWS: There will be an 8th Grade Open House on Wednesday, November 5, at 7 PM. Lutheran High will have parent teacher conferences on November 7. **************************************************************** Calendar 10/17 1:00 Early Dismissal 10/17-18 Immanuel JV Tourney at Immanuel 10/19 10:45 Preschool - Kindergarten choir sings 10/20 School pictures for Part-Day preschool 4s and those absent on Oct. 14 10/21 6:00 Volleyball JV & V vs. Salem, Jville at Salem, Jville 10/22 4:00 Cross Country-Our Saviors Invitational at Our Savior 10/23 4:00 Our Savior Football Tourney at Our Savior 10/24 Concordia Spelling Bee 10/24-26 Trinity Varsity Volleyball Tourney at Trinity 10/26 8:15 & 10:45 Grades 1-8 choir sings 10/31 Reformation Day 11/1 10:00-2:00 P.T.L.
