PRINCIPALLY SPEAKING: Our theme for this year is “Growing in Christ through Worship”. We need to constantly remind ourselves how important worship is. As food it is necessary to the health of our physical bodies (and we would never deprive ourselves of it), we should also not deprive our spiritual life of worship. If we do, we may begin to believe the foolishness of the world. “See to it that no one takes you captive through hollow and deceptive philosophy.” Colossians 2:8.
Concordia Lutheran Church will be getting a new pastor probably during November. Pastor James Hennig and his wife have four children who will attend Concordia Lutheran School. Keep them in your prayers as they make the move to Springfield.
God bless all as we look forward to the cooler temperatures this fall.
Dan Henschen

WORSHIP ETIQUETTE: Our church has stated proper etiquette for worshipers as follows: “We ask that the congregation limit unnecessary movement and talking during our worship services in order not to distract from the worship experience of others. Drinks and restroom visits should be taken care of before worship begins. Should it become necessary for a child to leave during the worship service, we ask that an adult accompany their child and exit through the glass doors at the back of the church. Children, all ages through high school, should not leave the sanctuary by themselves during the worship service. If your child is having a bad day or having difficulty being still, please take them to the narthex or basement until they are quieted and then return. If a parent near you is having trouble with a child, please offer your assistance. We praise God that God has perfected His praise in children. He invites children to come to Him, that children are the greatest in the Kingdom of God and that children may learn to sit quietly and participate in worship when they are encouraged to do so. Thank you.”

SCHOOL PICTURES: School pictures will be taken November 9th. Watch for future Chargers for more information as the date draws closer.

PTL FALL FESTIVAL AND SILENT AUCTION: Don’t forget to save Saturday, October 29, to come and enjoy the Fall Festival at Concordia. This annual PTL event is fun for everyone. As the children play the games, the parents and children bid on items in the silent auction. The hours are 10:00 till 2:00 with games, food, and fun for all! Help is needed to make our Fall Festival a success. One of our major fundraisers is our Silent Auction. Please contact local businesses for donations. There is a folder in the school hallway with letters for businesses when you contact them.

NO SCHOOL: There will be no school on Monday, October 10, in observance of Columbus Day.

SPELLING BEE: Concordia will have its annual spelling bee on Friday, October 21. Our school spelling bee fulfills a 2 fold purpose. All children in grades 2-8 participate thereby allowing everyone an opportunity to participate in a spelling bee giving God the praise and glory for minds that can learn and spell. The second purpose is to choose our representatives from grades 3-8 who will participate in the area-wide Lutheran schools spelling bee at Lutheran High School in January. By having our spelling bee now, the ones chosen to go to Lutheran High will have sufficient time to study the word lists.

LOVE SHOP: Love Shop is fast approaching. Now is the time to start making or buying those inexpensive items for the sale. Any and all donations will be gratefully appreciated. All donations should be marked for Love Shop and left with Sharon Gentry in the secretary’s office by November 15th. Thank you
Ladies Aide

VISION & HEARING TESTING: Vision and hearing testing for K-8 will be held at Concordia on October 17. Grades Kindergarten, 2nd, & 8th will be tested for vision. Hearing tests will be available for grades Kindergarten, 1st, 2nd, & 3rd. Parents or teachers of children in the other grades can request that their child be tested also. Parents who feel their children need testing but aren’t on the scheduled grade for the test will need to contact the teachers to request testing.

PARENT -TEACHER CONFERENCES: The first quarter ends on October 28. Report Cards will be issued on Wednesday, November 2. Conferences will be scheduled for parents to meet with the teachers on Thursday, November 3, and Friday, November 4. Watch for a note asking you to sign up for a specific time for conferences closer to the end of October.

DRESS CODE REMINDER: Shorts may not be worn again until next May. Thank you for your cooperation this fall with the dress code. We appreciate your help!

ELECTRONIC CHARGER UPDATE: We continue to work with Fred Loehrl. He regularly puts The Charger on the church website. The web address is listed right under The Charger name on the front page.
