PRINCIPALLY SPEAKING: Our theme for this year, “Preparing God’s People to Serve”, reminds me of the time Jesus washed the disciples feet. “After that, He poured water into a basis and began to wash His disciples’ feet, drying them with the towel that was wrapped around Him.” John 13:5. Now that is a real act of service, and I should use that as my example; but then I am reminded of mothers and fathers who changed the diapers, cleaned up after a sick child, and bathed their children. Maybe it is time to thank my parents for their service, if it is not too late.
Remember to attend the wiener roast at Camp CILCA from 4:00—7:00 P.M. on Saturday, October 2. It can be a great family time.
Thanks to all who help their children with their homework. It makes learning easier, and the child learns that education is important.
God bless you all as we enjoy the cooler weather.

WORSHIP ETIQUETTE: Our church has stated proper etiquette for worshipers as follows: “We ask that the congregation limit unnecessary movement and talking during our worship services in order not to distract from the worship experience of others. Drinks and restroom visits should be taken care of before worship begins. Should it become necessary for a child to leave during the worship service, we ask that an adult accompany their child and exit through the glass doors at the back of the church. Children, all ages through high school, should not leave the sanctuary by themselves during the worship service. If your child is having a bad day or having difficulty being still, please take them to the narthex or basement until they are quieted and then return. If a parent near you is having trouble with a child, please offer your assistance. We praise God that God has perfected His praise in children. He invites children to come to Him, that children are the greatest in the Kingdom of God and that children may learn to sit quietly and participate in worship when they are encouraged to do so. Thank you.”
SCHOOL PICTURES: School pictures will be taken on Tuesday, October 12, and again on Monday, October 18.
WIENER ROAST AND HAYRIDE: When: October 2
Where: Camp CILCA
Time: 4:00-7:00
Bring hot dogs, buns and a finger food to share and come out for an enjoyable time of fellowship! If you would like, you may bring lawn chairs to sit around the fire and relax. Also, if anyone has extra hot dog sticks, they would be greatly appreciated. We will be having 2 hayrides for all who would enjoy the ride!
PTL FALL FESTIVAL AND SILENT AUCTION: Don’t forget to save Saturday, October 23, to come and enjoy the Fall Festival at Concordia. This annual PTL event is fun for everyone. As the children play the games, the parents and children bid on items in the silent auction. The hours are 10:00 till 2:00 with games, food, and fun for all! Help is needed to make our Fall Festival a success. One of our major fundraisers is our Silent Auction. Please contact local businesses for donations. There is a folder in the school hallway with letters for businesses when you contact them.
NO SCHOOL: There will be no school on Monday, October 11, in observance of Columbus Day.
SPELLING BEE: Concordia will have its annual spelling bee on Friday, October 22. Our school spelling bee fulfills a 2 fold purpose. All children in grades 2-8 participate thereby allowing everyone an opportunity to participate in a spelling bee giving God the praise and glory for minds that can learn and spell. The second purpose is to choose our representatives from grades 3-8 who will participate in the area-wide Lutheran schools spelling bee at Lutheran High School in January. By having our spelling bee now, the ones chosen to go to Lutheran High will have sufficient time to study the word lists.
LOVE SHOP: Love Shop is fast approaching. Now is the time to start making or buying those inexpensive items for the sale. Any and all donations will be gratefully appreciated. All donations may be left with Sharon Gentry in the secretary’s office by November 15th. Thank you

QUOTABLE QUOTES:
Grandma Knows….
A Piece of Cake
Sometimes don’t we wonder “What did I do to deserve this,” or “Why did God have to do this to me?” See what Grandma has to say.
A little boy is telling his grandma how everything is going wrong... school, family problems, severe health problems, etc. Meanwhile, Grandma is baking a cake. She asks her grandson if he would like a snack, which, of course, he does.
“Here, have some cooking oil.”
“Yuck,” says the boy.
“How about a couple of raw eggs?”
“Gross, Grandma!”
“Would you like some flour them, or maybe baking soda?”
“Grandma, those are all yucky!”
To which Grandma replies: “Yes, all those things seem bad all by themselves. But when they are put together in the right way, they make a wonderfully delicious cake! God works the same way. Many times we wonder why He would let us go through such bad and difficult times. But God knows that when He puts these things all in His order, they always work for good! We just have to trust Him and eventually, they will all make something wonderful! God is crazy about you. He sends you flowers every spring and a sunrise every morning. Whenever you want to talk, He’ll listen. He can live anywhere in the universe, and He chose your heart.”
