PRINCIPALLY SPEAKING: “Preparing God’s People To Serve” is our theme this school year. We as a school and congregation have an opportunity to practice this very thing. Last week Concordia lost a congregation member, Elsa Barria. Elsa had suffered with a brain tumor for a long period of time. She had been in hospice care for several months. She died last week. She leaves behind a husband and three small children. During Elsa’s extended hospital stays, procedures, and hospice care time, the family has incurred high medical expenses. As a Christian community we have the opportunity to help. The following was in last Sunday’s bulletin.
“Following the death of Elsa Barria, gifts are being solicited to help with expenses and debts incurred before and during her hospice care. Gifts may be given to assist German Barria and his children Justin, Marissa, and Lucas by making a designated gift to Concordia using the right side of your offering envelope or by making a gift to the children through the Bank of Springfield, PO Box 19301, Springfield, IL 62794, naming how the check should be divided among the Barria children’s saving accounts. You may also make a gift using the offering box in the narthex.”
God bless you all as we look forward to Thanksgiving and remember to thank our Lord for all His gifts.

VISION AND HEARING TESTING: Vision screening will be done, as mandated, for the following children (Grades K, 2, 8 for vision and Grades K, 1-3 for hearing) on November 23 here at Concordia. Vision screening is not a substitute for a complete eye and vision evaluation by an eye doctor. Your child is not required to undergo this vision screening if an optometrist or ophthalmologist has completed and signed a report form indicating that an examination has been administered within the previous 12 months and that evaluation is on file at the school. Vision screening is not an option. If a vision examination report is not on file at the school for your child, your child if in the appropriate age group will be screened.
BASKETBALL JAMBOREE/PTL CHILI SUPPER: Don’t forget the jamboree and chili supper tonight! Come and enjoy fun, fellowship, good food, and enjoyable varsity girls and boys basketball at Concordia. The jamboree begins at 5:00, as does the Chili Supper. With the chili supper will be our Chili Cook-Off. The judging will be from 6:00-6:30. Cook-Off chili will be available to eat as well as the “House Chili”. Come one...come all!
BIBLE BOWL: The Bible Bowl has been postponed until March 19. Watch for more information closer to Bible Bowl time.
THANKSGIVING: Thanksgiving Vacation begins at 1:00 on Wednesday, November 24. School resumes on Monday, November 29, at 8:30 AM.
END OF MID-QUARTER: The end of the mid-quarter is Friday, December 3. Reports will be sent home on Wednesday, December 8.
LOVE SHOP – The dates for this year’s Love Shop are Thursday, December 2nd and Friday December 3rd. The ladies of our congregation make and gather items all year long to provide our children with a Christmas shopping opportunity. Prices are kept very reasonable to allow children to shop for multiple family members if they desire. This becomes their chance to do a little independent shopping. The first day of shopping the children are limited to the number of items they can purchase. On the second shopping day they may purchase as much as they can afford. The rules will be the same as last year, there will be no lay-a-ways, no charges, and the children can only spend the amount of money they have brought with them. Also there will be no adult shopping prior to the children shopping. The remainder of the items will be available for the adults to purchase on Sunday, December 5th after both services and Wednesday December 8th at the Advent dinner.
CHRISTMAS PROGRAMS: The Early Childhood Christmas Program will be on Thursday, December 16, at 7:00 PM. Grades 1-8 will have their program on Tuesday, December 21, at 7:00. PM.
