PRINCIPALLY SPEAKING: Thanksgiving is upon us, and everyone is getting ready to be thankful by visiting family and friends, eating a big meal, and watching a little football. Our world really misses the point when it celebrates this way and asks everyone to give thanks, but forgets to mention to whom we should give our thanks. If we do not have faith in God and that all good things come from Him, than our Thanksgiving will be very shallow.
Take time this Thanksgiving to talk to your children about to whom we give our thanks and that we need to give thanks to Him year around.
Concordia Lutheran Church and School will be installing our new pastor on Sunday, November 20, at 3:00pm. You are all invited to attend and welcome Pastor James Hennig, his wife Denise, and their four children to our Concordia family.
I want to thank Pastor Koschmann, our vacancy Pastor, for all the work he did during this time. He was very supportive of all the ministries here at Concordia and very helpful to me.
I wish you all a Christ-centered Thanksgiving! “Give thanks to the Lord, for he is good; his love endures forever.” Psalms 107:1
Dan Henschen

THANK YOU FROM THE TEACHERS! We would like to thank parents who supplied the teachers with food during the recent parent-teacher conferences. It was wonderful to have the opportunity to get a bite to eat when we had time between conferences. It was very much appreciated. Thank you for your thoughtfulness!

BASKETBALL JAMBOREE/PTL CHILI SUPPER: Don’t forget the jamboree and chili supper tonight! Come and enjoy fun, fellowship, good food, and enjoyable varsity girls and boys basketball at Concordia. The jamboree begins at 4:30, as does the Chili Supper. With the chili supper will be our Chili Cook-Off. The judging will be from 6:00-6:30. Cook-Off chili will be available to eat as well as the “House Chili”. Come one...come all!

THANKSGIVING: Thanksgiving Vacation begins at 1:00 on Wednesday, November 23. School resumes on Monday, November 28, at 8:30 AM.

END OF MID-QUARTER: The end of the mid-quarter is Friday, December 2. Reports will be sent home on Wednesday, November 7, 2005.

LOVE SHOP – The dates for this year’s Love Shop are Thursday, December 1st and Friday December 2nd. The ladies of our congregation make and gather items all year long to provide our children with a Christmas shopping opportunity. Prices are kept very reasonable to allow children to shop for multiple family members if they desire. This becomes their chance to do a little independent shopping. The first day of shopping the children are limited to the number of items they can purchase. On the second shopping day they may purchase as much as they can afford. The rules will be the same as last year, there will be no lay-a-ways, no charges, and the children can only spend the amount of money they have brought with them. Also there will be no adult shopping prior to the children shopping. The remainder of the items will be available for the adults to purchase on the following church services on Saturday and Sunday.

We are sending gift tags home with the children to fill out a few days prior to the 1st. This is a good time to begin helping the children make out their shopping lists. The children cannot but for themselves. The items are to be purchased as gifts.

CHRISTMAS PROGRAMS: The Early Childhood Christmas Program will be on Thursday, December 15, at 7:00 PM. Grades 1-8 will have their program on Tuesday, December 21, at 7:00. PM.

QUOTABLE QUOTES:

WHEN YOU THOUGHT I WASN’T LOOKING
(Written by a former child)

When you thought I wasn’t looking, I saw you hang my first painting on the refrigerator, and I immediately wanted to paint another one.

When you thought I wasn’t looking, I saw you feed a stray cat, and I learned that it was good to be kind to animals.

When you thought I wasn’t looking, I saw you make my favorite cake for me, and I learned that the little things can be the special things in life.

When you thought I wasn’t looking, I heard you say a prayer. I knew there is a God I could always talk to, and I learned to trust in God.

When you thought I wasn’t looking, I saw you make a meal and take it to a friend who was sick. I learned that we all have to help take care of each other.

When you thought I wasn’t looking, I saw you give of your time and money to help people who had nothing. I learned that those who have something should give to those who don’t.

When you thought I wasn’t looking, I saw you take care of our house and everyone it in, and I learned we have to take care of what we are given.

When you thought I wasn’t looking, I saw how you handled your responsibilities, even when you didn’t feel good. I learned that I would have to be responsible when I grew up.

When you thought I wasn’t looking, I saw tears come from your eyes, and I learned that sometimes things hurt, but it’s all right to cry.

When you thought I wasn’t looking, I learned most of life’s lessons that I needed to know to be a good and productive person when I grew up.

When you thought I wasn’t looking, I looked at you and wanted to say, “Thanks for all the things I saw when you thought I wasn’t looking.”

LITTLE EYES SEE A LOT. Each of us as parent, grandparent, aunt, uncle, teacher, or friend influence the life of a child.
