May 15, 2009

The school year is coming to a close, but our children’s education should never stop. Summer vacation should be a time for our children to worship regularly and to attend Sunday School. It is also a time for families to make trips to the library and spend time reading; and for all the family members to be assigned chores so we can learn to work together.

God bless you all this summer and let us all remember:
“Jesus is our strength” not just this school year but always.

-Dan Henschen

Schwans Fundraiser: Congratulations to the winner of April’s popsicle contest: the kindergarten, 1st & 2nd, and 5th & 6th grade classes had a three way tie! The next event will be Wednesday, May 27th (the last day of school): 10:00-1:00pm in the large parking lot. Our goal for May is $2,500.00. You can get books and order forms on the narthex table, in the office or from Amy Morgan. A percentage of the proceeds will go to Concordia Lutheran.
Questions? Contact: Amy Morgan at: 529-3309.

May Chapel Offerings

The May chapel offerings are going to Christ Lutheran School in Jacob, Illinois, which was damaged in a storm recently. The gym was totally destroyed and a tree landed on the school. Thank God that the school children and teachers were unhurt as they were in an inner room during the storm. Our offerings in May, as well as a collection of balls, jump ropes, hula hoops and other gym toys will be sent there to help them in their recovery from the storm.
2009-2010 School Year: Please invite anyone you know who would like to have their 3year old children—8th grader enroll in our Christian pre-school and grade school. Registration for the 2009-2010 school year will be held in the church overflow on May 17th from 11am-1pm. If you can’t make that date please stop by the Church & School office and register soon. Questions? Please feel free to call us at 529-3309, or stop by.
We are looking forward to another great school year!

Your Child’s Christian Education does not have to end with the end of school. As always, you can bring your children to Sunday School and Church. This summer, there is also Vacation Bible School to help enrich your child’s Christian education and have great fun doing it. The dates for VBS are July 19-23 from 6-8pm. Sunday school is for children of all ages and adults and is held on Sunday at 9:00am. Our Church Services are held Saturday at 5:30pm and Sunday at 10:00am. Hope to see all of you here this summer to share in the love of Jesus Christ.
-Thank you, Sharon & Lora

I am afraid of bees and wasps. What I do when I am afraid is
I just try to forget about it and go on. I can help kids to not feel afraid by
telling them to just ignore what they’re afraid of
and continue what they are doing.
- Adam M. (5th Grade)

I am afraid of spiders, large bugs, heights and many other things.
When I am scared I try to sing a happy song. I can help other kids to not be afraid
by teaching them some of the happy songs I sing when I am afraid.

On Cinco de Mayo I would travel to Mexico to celebrate! I would congratulate the Mexicans for winning a fight over the French at Puebla in 1862.
-Hanna W. (6th Grade)

How I would celebrate Cinco de Mayo is I would dance and eat Mexican foods.
I think it would be really cool to learn different Mexican dances
and learn more about their culture.
-Sierra G. (6th Grade)

At a Cinco de Mayo party I would make quesadillas, tacos and fajitas.
I would also have chips and homemade salsa. I would wear an original Cinco de Mayo dress and bring some original instrument to play!
-Mary W. (6th Grade)

What I would do at a Cinco de Mayo party is dance and play with friends.
I would also listen to music.
-Dylan W. (5th Grade)

There was a cow named Nelly, she was really smelly.
Her milk was so sour, it made us all cower and gave us aches in our belly.
-Michelle H. (6th Grade)

There once was a horse who was running of course. He was rearing to jump,
but he fell right on his rump. Alas, he and I am to plump of course!
-Emily M. (6th Grade)

There was a boy, who went to the zoo, He had no idea what to do.
The zoo was in Atlanta, he took some Mylanta, and went back home to Naloo!
