January 23, 2009

The first semester ends with a bunch of cold weather and school being cancelled for two days. That makes it a little hard for students to concentrate on classes, homework, tests and all of the other school “stuff”; but we will continue to learn because we know that it is what God expects of us. This is one of those times we need to remember our theme: “Jesus Gives Me Strength”.

Seek the Lord and His strength; seek His presence continually! —Psalm 105:4

Take time to talk to your child about their progress reports. Include a discussion about church and school attendance. Our children need to know that we value their education by what we say and by how we support them in their studies.

God bless you all as we continue to teach His children.
-Dan Henschen

January Chapel Offerings:

The January chapel offerings are going to help Lutheran Bible translators. They translate the Bible so that people of other languages can know the word of the Lord.

**School Dismissal Due to Bad Weather—If it is necessary to close school due to severe weather, mechanical failure, or other emergencies the announcement will be made over local radio stations WMAY (970 AM), WTAX (1240 AM), and WDBR (103.7 FM). Please do not call the teachers! Concordia will align school closing with District 1863 (except for early dismissals) due to bad weather or other emergencies that are not affecting Concordia.

**Transportation Reimbursement: Applications are due on February 1st! If you plan to apply for reimbursement and you live less than 1.5 miles from school, a special form must be submitted to the Regional Superintendent of Schools. Attached is a sheet explaining how to get a form, how to file and instructions regarding distance and qualification.

When you are picking up your children early from school, you need to stop by the office and officially sign them out!

Anytime you have a question please do not hesitate to call the office. -Thank you, Sharon & Lora

Your Help Would Be Greatly Appreciated

*1st and 2nd grade is still in need of an additional reading helper! Helping only involves coming to school from 9:30-10:30 am on Monday, Tuesday and Thursday. All you need to do is listen to a group of 3-4 children take turns reading the assigned story of the day. The more volunteers the smaller the groups. If you know anyone who would be interested, please contact Pam Billotte 529-3309.

*When cleaning out your old “Stuff”, Please think of Concordia. Our classrooms are in need of your donations. If you are trying to get rid of any of these things or are at the store and see any of these items on sale, your help would be greatly appreciated. The needed items are:

Extended Care: any theme craft supplies, Nerf balls, Frisbees, Play dough and supplies
Preschool: old magazines (especially those with pictures of food)
Pre K: plastic coffee containers, empty and clean pudding/Jell-O/land-o-lakes butter
containers (oblong shape), mittens and gloves (don’t have to match), old pants
(size 4/5), socks and underwear (boys and girls), plastic store bags, brown and white
paper lunch bags
3rd & 4th: old towels

*Concordia Lutheran Church is in the process of building a new room called “The Heritage Room”. This room will be used to hold meetings, Bible class, counseling, a place for the funeral families, a bride’s dressing room and other applications. Capitol items will be included as part of the mortgage but the furnishings will have to come from individual donations. The committee set up to take care of the layout and furnishings have decided to have all of the furnishings be oak and brass. If you have any items that you would like to donate please send a colored picture with your name and phone number along with the dimensions of the item to the church office. The item will then be considered as to it’s suitability for the overall plan for furnishing the room.

****Thank you for all of the donations of items needed so far and for the volunteers who are giving their time!!!!!!

Attention Future Kindergarteners !!!!
Mark your calendars for Tuesday January 27th. We will be hosting an open house for all prospective kindergarten students and their parents from 4:30 until 6:30 pm. You are welcome to visit our kindergarten classroom and meet the teacher. You and your child will have the opportunity to find out more about our program. If you have a future kindergartner or know of someone who does, please plan to come. Our purpose is to provide a Christ-centered learning environment for our children. We feel that it is important to begin their formal education having the opportunity to grow not only in a solid academic manner, but also with Christ as the center of that experience. We look forward to meeting our new class!

My Dreams

The place I was; The place I will go; The place I went; They all met in my dreams.
My wants; My needs; My haves; My gots; They all meet in my dreams.
My loves; My passions; My hates; My spites; They all meet in my dreams.
My dream wonders; I wonders; What shall I dream tonight?

What is invincibility

Is invincibility merely a valor state of mind pushed to physical limits?
Or is it a reality crammed into one’s being?
Is it simply a matter of human boundaries?
Like God in example, is He invincible? Or is He so much more?
What is invincibility?
-Maranda P. 8th Grade
