PRINCIPALLY SPEAKING: As our children grow in “grace and knowledge” this school year, we are reminded that this is the time of the year when parents are thinking about next school year. Because we have extra room in preschool and in K-8, let other parents know about our school. We teach children about Jesus Christ. “Train up a child in the way he should go, and when he is old he will not turn from it.” Proverbs 22:6
It seems like the flu has let us alone for awhile, but remember to tell your children to wash their hands regularly to keep the viruses and bacteria at bay.
God bless you all as we look to stay warm this winter season.

SPELLING BEE: The 3rd through 8th grade teams chosen at our Concordia Spelling Bee last October competed at Lutheran High School in the area wide Lutheran Grade School Spelling Bee on Saturday, January 10. Parents and friends came out to Lutheran High and supported our teams as well as enjoyed the Christian fellowship with families from our sister congregations. Our participants are to be commended for their Christian attitude. Their demeanor gave praise and glory to God for the talents He has given them. Our participants were as follows: 3rd grade, Deborah W. & Tina W. (tied for 1st place); 4th grade, Olivia L. & Eric S. (2nd place); 5th grade, Ashley V. & Malik C. (tied for 3rd place); 6th grade, Grace A. & Ashley L. (tied for 1st place); 7th grade, Steven S. & Elliott J. (3rd place); and 8th grade, Kasie M. & Bryan C. (6th place).

KINDERGARTEN ROUND-UP: Mark your calendars for Tuesday, January 20. We will be having an open house for all prospective kindergarten students and their parents on January 20 from 5:00 until 7:00 PM. If you have a kindergartener or know of someone who does, please plan to come. Our purpose it to provide a Christ-centered learning environment for our children of all ages. How important it is to begin their formal education having the opportunity to grow not only in a solid academic manner, but also with Christ as the center of that experience growing in faith and understanding of the Christian life.

REPORT CARDS: The second quarter ends today. Your child will be bringing home the second quarter report card next Wednesday, January 21. If you have any questions or concerns, please contact your child’s teacher.

TRANSPORTATION REIMBURSEMENT INFORMATION: Contact the school for the details regarding the reimbursement information for the 2003-2004 school year.

SCHOOL CLOSING REMINDER: When District #186 closes, so does Concordia.

SPORTS REMINDERS: This year during the ball games we are allowing water and popcorn to be taken into the gym. We are, however, limiting the food and drink to those two items. Candy, nachos, and all other food and drinks are to remain in the concession stand area. Food items are not to be carried down the hallways to the bathrooms, etc. This is for clean up purposes. The more places we allow food and drink, the more places we have to clean after the games are finished. Trips to the bathroom are certainly permissible, but children are not to be playing in the hallways, bathroom, going in and out of classrooms, or roaming outside. Children should be seated in the gym unless eating in the concession stand area or using the restroom. The children are strongly encouraged to remain in the gym and watch the game. Besides the obvious problem of fingers being stepped on and shoulders bumped, the constant coming and going up and down the bleachers during the games is disruptive to those who are watching the game. The games are to be enjoyed as a family activity. The volunteers ,who generously give of their time to do the many needed procedures to make the games work, are not able to supervise the children and provide for their safety.

Words of Wisdom

If you are not familiar with the work of Steven Wright, he’s the guy who once said: “I woke up one morning, and all my stuff had been stolen...and replaced by exact duplicates.” His mind sees things differently than most of us do - to our amazement and amusement. Here are some of his “gems”:

Borrow money from pessimists - they don’t expect it back.

42.7% of all statistics are made up on the spot.

A Clear conscience is usually a sign of a bad memory.

the early bird may get the worm, but the 2nd mouse gets the cheese.

I almost had a psychic girlfriend, but she left me before we met.

OK, so what’s the speed of dark?

How do you tell when you are out of invisible ink?

Depression is merely anger without enthusiasm.

When everything is coming your way, LOOK OUT! - you’re in the wrong lane.

Eagles soar, but weasels don’t get sucked into jet engines.

Experience is something you don’t get until just after you need it.

The hardness of butter is proportional to the softness of the bread.

The problem with the gene pool is that there is no lifeguard.

The colder the x-ray table, the more of your body is required to be on it.

Everyone has a photographic memory, some just don’t have film.

A conclusion is the place where you got tired of thinking.
