PRINCIPALLY SPEAKING: During difficult times it is always good to be reminded that we have God’s unending supply of Grace to help us deal with life’s conditions. May we be ever “Growing in Grace and Knowledge”! The continuing threat of war, the poor economy, high gas prices, and personal problems seem to be overwhelming. God is still in charge, and He will take care of us. And do not set your heart on what you will eat or drink; do not worry about it. For the pagan world runs after all such things, and your Father knows that you need them. But seek His kingdom, and these things will be given to you as well. Luke 12: 29-31
It has been a long winter, but God promises us the renewal time of spring. Take time to watch the snow melt and look for the first signs of spring. Show your children that God is still in charge, and He gives us the only hope for the future that is absolute.
God bless you all as we together continue to teach His children.

Dan Henschen

LENT: Ash Wednesday is February 25. Ash Wednesday begins the Lenten Season in our church year. It is a time of reflections and repentance as we again recall the passion of our Lord. This is a wonderful opportunity as a family to set aside devotional time to read the Biblical account, discuss it as a family, and provide opportunities for your child to grow in faith. The church has set aside Wednesday evenings for special Lenten church services throughout the Lenten season. Now is the time to set priorities so that your family can participate and use these opportunities to praise God for His Son as well as grow in faith. There will be dinners provided by the various groups in the church and school prior to the Lenten services. There are no tickets to buy for these. There’s a free will basket at the dinners for families to contribute what they can. There is no set amount asked per person. These dinners are good opportunities to visit and enjoy Christian fellowship prior to the service. Then after eating all go up to church to praise and thank God for all His bountiful gifts and grow in understanding of the greatest gift God could give us-His Son.

NON-PUBLIC SCHOOL SPELLING BEE: Our thanks to Steven S. for representing Concordia at the Sangamon County Non-Public Spelling Bee that was held on Saturday, February 14 at West Side Christian Church. Well done, Steven!

MUSIC CONTEST: The Lutheran High School Music contest is March 14, 2004. Information is being sent home with the students. This is open to all students first through eighth grades. We hope many of our students will participate in the contest.

BUDGET WORKSHOP: Are you running out of money before you run out of month? Having trouble paying all your bills? Not have money to make an acceptable offering to God on Sunday? A Budgeting Workshop will be held on Tuesday Evening, February 24th at 7:00 pm. Please enroll by signing the sheet in the office.

PART-DAY PRESCHOOL: : Beginning Tuesday, February 17, registration for 3 and 4 year old children of Concordia’s church and school families will be accepted for the 2004-2005 school year. On Monday, March 1, registration will be open to everyone on a first come, first served basis. We would be pleased to have your 3 or 4 year old, or your relative’s, neighbor’s, or friend’s child be a part of our Christian fun and learning. Registration forms are in the church office and outside the Preschool classroom. If you would like more information or would like to arrange a visit, please call Patricia Steffen, 529-3309 (school) or 529-1897 (home).

PTL SPAGHETTI DINNER: The PTL Spaghetti dinner will be held on Sunday, February 22nd from 12:00-2:00 in the school gym. This is a free will offering with the money going towards the Lutheran High Scholarships. Please join us after church for food and fellowship.

NATIONAL LUTHERAN SCHOOL WEEK: National Lutheran Schools week is coming up the first of March. Scheduled events are Roller Skating, Lutheran High Chorus, Civil War display by Roy King, visitors Day with Pastor Barth, and a special lunch is planned. We thank God for our school and celebrate with other Lutheran schools March 7-12.

TRIVIA NIGHT: Our 2nd annual Trivia Night will be held on Friday, March 12th. Doors will open at 6:30, and we will start at 7:00. This year’s theme will be “The Times of Your Life”. We will once again provide baby-sitting for this event, and we will have prizes for first, second, and third place. The cost is $10 per person, and food will be available throughout the evening. We will have teams of 8. You can make your own team, or we can put teams together. Watch for more information.

CAMPBELL SOUP LABELS: Please remember to be saving the labels. It won’t be long before the school will be placing our yearly order for school needs. The more labels we have, the more we can “purchase” with them. Check with your child’s teacher if you are unsure of what labels we are collecting.

LUTHERAN HIGH BRUNCH: Don’t forget the annual Lutheran High School Brunch in conjunction with our area wide Lutheran Schools Music Contest on March 14th.

QUOTABLE QUOTES

Life with a twist....

Gardening Rule: When weeding, the best way to make sure you are removing a weed and not a valuable plant is to pull on it. If it comes out of the ground easily, it is a valuable plant.

If quitters never win, and winners never quit, then who is the fool who said, “Quit while you’re ahead?”

Get the last word in: Apologize.

Give a person a fish and you feed them for a day; teach that person to use the Internet, and they won’t bother you for weeks.

Health nuts are going to feel stupid someday, lying in hospitals dying of nothing.

All of us could take a lesson from the weather. It pays no attention to criticism.

How is it that one careless match can start a forest fire, but it takes a whole box to start a campfire?

And the #1 thought for the day: You read about all these terrorists - most of them came here legally but they hung around on these expired visas, some for as long as 10-15 years. Now, compare that to Blockbuster; you are two days late with a video and those people are all over you. Let’s put Blockbuster in charge of immigration.
