Principally Speaking:

What a busy time of the school year! We are just getting started with second semester; basketball and cheerleading are in mid-season; chess club meets every week; in every classroom, students are being introduced to new concepts; and Concordia has had two open houses: one for kindergarten and one for preschool.

What all this leads to is that we already looking at next school year. Help us make it another great year. Tell your friends, neighbors, and relatives that Concordia is here to teach their children about Jesus and many things about His world. Help us reach as many students as we can.

God bless you all as we enjoy the warmer temperatures.

-Dan Henschen

HAVE A HEART, GIVE A SOLE. Did you know that a single pair of shoes can provide a lifetime of clean water for one person? Reverend George Hutchings has made it his mission to bring clean water to Kenya. To fund his clean water initiative, Hutchings collects used but good shoes and sells them to a local recycler who in turn, ships the shoes to a South American used shoe market. Hutchings used the proceeds to purchase drilling rigs and towing vehicles used to provide clean water to Kenyans. To help we will be collecting shoes anytime during the week in the church office or at church the weekend of the 20-21st until Friday the 26th. For more information, contact Ralph N. or Betty Lou H. at Thrivent.

$577.40 was received from Box Tops that were collected for the 1st 1/2 of the school year! All of those little Box Tops add up. We can collect these all year and send them in twice a year for our refund. They can be given to any student, teacher, the office or placed in the box in the Narthex.

Thank you for you ongoing support in this. Effort.

The Ladies Aid would like to thank everyone who donated Christmas card fronts to be used for tags for Love Shop. We have more than enough for everyone next year. Thank you.

Also, we are looking for the person who received a "NO: plaque bought at the Love Shop. Unfortunately, this was only 1/2 of a 2-piece set. If you are this person, please check with Sharon or Lora in the office for the other 1/2 that makes the plaque say: "NOEL". Thank you again.

Weekly Writing Corner: As seen in Wednesday editions of the SJR.

Topic: With Citrus Comes Vitamin C (01-27-10)(when life gives you lemons, what should you do?)

If life gives you lemons make the best of it. Just as if you were grounded

and could not use your electronics, read a book or play a board game.

-Alec (5th grade)

When life gives you lemons you should not give up. You should keep going and give it your all! When you want to just stop you should finish your goal.

-Logan (6th grade)

I think that a wise person once said "if you have lemons you will never go thirsty".

So when you get lemons squeeze them and drink up!

-Austin (6th grade)

Topic: What would you need for a weekend camping in the forest? (02-03-10)

For a camping trip I would need a flashlight, protective clothing, first aid kit,

a tent, food, water and adult supervision.

Also, you would need to remember to stay with your friends.

-Gary (6th grade)

To be prepared I would bring a first aid kit.

I would also bring some extra blankets,

food, water bottles, a tent and a flashlight just to be safe.

-Kaitlyn (5th grade)

If I went camping I would need to pack plenty of food. I would bring a tent, flashlight and

some sleeping bags. I would prepare for going on a walk in the forest and also prepare for going fishing and all the other stuff I might do. It always feels good to be prepared!

-Zach (6th grade)
