In the famous words of Ebenezer Scrooge: “Christmas is a Humbug”, and for some people Christmas is indeed a “Humbug”. If you let yourself get caught up in the shopping, the traffic and all of the hectic things that go along with the holiday season, it is easy to start to feel that way. Several characters in various Christmas movies have had that feeling as well, characters such as The Grinch and George Baily in It’s A Wonderful Life. However, old Ebenezer, George Baily and even the Grinch learned by the end of their stories that there is so much more to Christmas.
One of the best Christmas movies is the Peanuts movie where the character Charlie Brown feels that there is nothing special about Christmas and learns by the end it’s true meaning. It gives me great joy to watch every year when Linus van Pelt tells the story for us and reminds us the real reason for the season. Read the bible story again and try to keep it in mind when you start to feel all of the hectic things surrounding this entire season.
And behold, an angel of the Lord stood before them, and the glory of the Lord shone around them, and they were greatly afraid. Then the angel said to them, “Do not be afraid, for behold, I bring you good tidings of great joy which will be to all people. For there is born to you this day in the city of David a Savior, who is Christ the Lord. And this will be the sign to you: You will find a Babe wrapped in swaddling clothes, lying in a manger.” And suddenly there was with the angel a multitude of the heavenly host praising God and saying:
“Glory to God in the highest, and on earth peace, good will toward men!” (Luke 2: 9-14)
Merry Christmas, Lora Beavers (for Dan Henschen)

*1st and 2nd grade is still in need of an additional reading helper! Helping only involves coming to school from 9:30-10:30 am on Monday, Tuesday and Thursday. Student Poetry Corner
The star is always seen, it shines like a glowing beam.
It sits adjacent to the sun; you look at it for fun.
A little dot in the sky is all you need to realize,
wherever you are, whatever you do, even if your down and blue,
just look up in the sky and see that star shining high.
