December 05, 2008
The new church year has begun with the advent season. It’s a time to reflect on the Savior and His coming. Not only do we want to remember His birth in Bethlehem, but we can look forward to his second coming when He will take us home to Heaven. That is why it is a time of preparation, a time to prepare for His coming.
Preparing for Christmas can be all about the tree, the lights, the presents, our friends and our family. All of these things are great, but if we leave out the Lord in our Christmas preparation, Christmas can get to be very shallow. The worst part is that our children will know it.
This advent season, please take time with the Lord through prayer, worship, and reading His word and make sure that you include your children. That way our preparation will not only be on the outside, but also inside of our hearts.
Therefore, preparing your minds for action, and being sober-minded, set your hope fully on the grace that will be brought to you at the revelation of Jesus Christ. 1 Peter 1:13
God bless all of you this advent season and may Christ be a big part of you and your children’s preparation.
Dan Henschen
