PRINCIPALLY SPEAKING: What a great time to celebrate Easter! Trees that showed no sign of life are covered with leaves and flowers. What a great example of rebirth! We too shall rise just as Christ rose. “Jesus said to her, ‘I am the resurrection and the life. He who believes in Me will live, even though he dies; and whoever lives and believes in Me will never die. Do you believe this?’” John 11:25 & 26.
The students will be taking achievement tests next week. Parents can assist their child by making sure they get a good night’s sleep, eat a nutritious breakfast, and arrive at school on time. These tests can show you how your child is doing academically.
We thank a parent for the contribution of computers for each of the classrooms. The trustees have run cable so that we will have internet access in the classrooms in the near future.
God bless you all as we watch the rebirth of all of nature this spring. Let us all be reminded of the resurrection. He is risen! Dan Henschen

CAMPBELL SOUP LABELS: Please remember to be saving the labels. It won’t be long before the school will be placing our yearly order for school needs. The more labels we have, the more we can “purchase” with them. Check with your child’s teacher if you are unsure of what labels we are collecting.

GENERAL MILLS LABELS: We have mailed in our box tops for this year and thank all of you for participating. Although this year’s campaign is over, please continue to collect Box Tops from all General Mills products. These include not only cereal but many other items like soups, sauces, frozen dinners. etc. We will add them to our totals in the fall. There are collection boxes in each classroom and outside the church sanctuary. Each box top earns 10 cents for our school. This adds up to several hundred dollars each year.

PARKING: Thanks to all the parents who have been so cooperative with our new dismissal procedures. We think this is a much safer way to dismiss the children. We are going to be sending the children who have not been picked up to extended care at 3:15 instead of 3:20. No further expenses to the parents will be incurred for extended care fees. Separate from the dismissal procedure topic, the trustees have informed us that the neighbor directly across the street from the front of the school has mentioned that cars are pulling off the street and into the man’s lawn as they drop of and pick up children. Please help us to be a good neighbor in the community and respect the property of those who live around us by not pulling over too far and getting on the man’s lawn. Thank you.

CONFIRMATION: Our 8th graders will be confirmed in the 10:45 service on Sunday, April 25. This is a time when our 8th graders, after having completed 2 years of instruction, confirm publicly in front of the congregation their baptismal vows. This is both a solemn and joyous occasion for our students and their families. We encourage all to attend the service and witness this profession of faith. Our confirmands this year are: Lewie A., Cody C., Elliott J., Cale N., Josh O., Zach R., Amy R., and Stevie T.

CHURCH NEWS: Pastor Olander has accepted a Call to Zion Lutheran church in New Holland, IL. He will be leaving in mid-May to begin his ministry there. We thank him for his years of service in God’s Kingdom here at Concordia and pray God’s blessing on Pastor’s ministry to the church family in New Holland. We have a vacancy pastor assigned to us to see us though until God directs a pastor to accept our Call here.

MID-QUARTER: The mid-quarter ends on Friday, April 22. Mid-quarter reports for grades K-8 will be sent home on Wednesday, April 27. Watch your child’s bookbag for these reports. If you have any questions or concerns, please contact your child’s teacher.

PART-DAY PRESCHOOL: Registration for 3 and 4-year old children of Concordia’s church and school families are now being accepted for the 2005-2006 school year. We would be pleased to have your 3 or 4 year old, or your relative’s, neighbor’s or friend’s child be a part of our Christian fun and learning. Registration forms are in the church office and outside the Preschool classroom. If you would like more information or would like to arrange a visit, please call Pat Steffen, 529-3309 (school) or 529-1897 (home).

REGISTRATION INFORMATION: In order to be good stewards of God’s resources and have a successful 2005-2006 school year, we are making plans for next fall. Please help us by filling out the sheet at the end of The Charger and return it promptly.

QUOTABLE QUOTES

The Turntable Bridge

There once was this turntable bridge which spanned a large river. During most of the day, the bridge sat parallel with the river, allowing ships to pass freely on both sides. But at certain times each day a train would come along and the bridge would be turned across the river allowing the trains to cross. A switchman sat in a small shack on one side of the river where he operated the controls to turn the bridge and lock it in to place as the train crossed.
One evening, as the switchman was waiting for the last train of the day to come, he looked off into the distance through the dimming twilight and caught sight of the train’s light. He stepped to the controls and waited until the train was within a prescribed distance when he was to turn the bridge into position. He turned the bridge, but to his horror, found that the locking control didn’t work. If the bridge was not locked into position securely, it would wobble back and forth at the ends where the train comes onto it. This would cause the train to jump the track and go crashing into the river. This train was a passenger train with many people aboard. He left the bridge turned across the river and hurried to the other side of the river where there was a lever he could use to operate the lock manually.
He could hear the rumble of the train now. He took hold of the lever and leaned backward to apply pressure to keep the mechanism locked. Many lives depended on this man’s strength. Then, coming across from the direction of his control shack he heard a sound that made his blood run cold: “Daddy, where are you?” His four-year-old son was crossing the bridge to look for him. His first impulse was to cry out to the child, “Run, run!” but the train was too close. The tiny legs would never make it across the bridge in time. The man almost lifted the lever to run and snatch up his son and carry him to safety, but he realized he could not get back to the lever in time. Either the people on the train or his little son must soon die.
He took just a moment to make his decision. The train sped swiftly and safely on it’s way, and no one aboard was aware of the tiny, broken body thrown mercilessly into the river by the rushing train Nor were they aware of the pitiful figure of a sobbing man still clinging tightly to the lever long after the train had passed. They didn’t see him walking home more slowly than he had ever walked to tell his wife how he had sacrificed her son.
Now if you can comprehend the feelings which went through this man’s heart, you can begin to understand, as much as humans can, the feeling of our Heavenly Father when He sacrificed His Son to bridge the gap between us and eternal life. How does He feel when we speed along through life without giving thought to what was done for us through His Son, Jesus Christ? Can there be any wonder that He caused the earth to tremble and the skies to darken when His only Son died?
